The Executive Women in Government (EWG) Mentoring Program is carefully designed to prepare,
promote, and mentor women for senior leadership positions in the Federal Government.
It is the perfect opportunity to help women build powerful networks, enhance professional relationships and contribute to effective succession planning by creating a mentoring culture across government.
Program Goals
In collaboration with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the EWG Mentoring Program is designed to increase the number of women ready and willing to assume higher level positions. This will be accomplished by:
• Sponsoring one mentoring program per year.
• Bringing together Senior Executive Women Leaders with those who desire mentorship to reach the next level.
• Creating and fostering a mentoring culture to attract, build and retain a new generation of women leaders.
• Maintaining contact with participants in previous cohorts to understand past successes and future improvements to the program.
Time Commitment
The EWG Mentoring Program provides your partnership with enough structure to help sustain and maintain momentum; yet it is flexible enough to give you the freedom you need to individualize the program to suit your needs and circumstances:
• 8-month program supported by online and live training opportunities.
• 1-3 hour monthly commitment devoted to mentoring meetings and activities.
• Each mentoring partnership will agree on the frequency and duration of their meetings.
Training & Guidance
Participants will have plenty of flexibility on how they acquire the necessary skills to identify, launch and maintain their mentoring partnerships. The program will offer traditional live training sessions as well as webinars and on-demand webcasts. There are four required trainings to participate in this program. These trainings will be live in the DC Metro Area:
• Dynamic Mentoring Orientation and Speed Mentoring-Live (October 1, 2024)
• Dynamic Mentoring Connections Workshop-Live (October 30, 2024)
• Mid-Point Energizer-Live (February 5, 2025)
• End of Program Review and Celebration-Live (June 25, 2025)

• Resources and guidelines to help each partnership sustain their momentum.

Testimonials
Mentee Quotes:
• I love the fact that this group is for women and it has been extremely valuable to collaborate with other women who are successful and growing within careers as leaders. The exercises and mentoring sessions were valuable in obtaining new information and skills to succeed as a leader
• During the program, I transitioned to a new job and the mentorship relationship played a critical role in my ability to approach this new challenge with confidence and an open mind. I have found myself falling into an “imposter syndrome” mentality in previous roles, however I worked on moving past that mindset. Additionally, I am still working toward leadership and supervisory roles so this program allowed me to begin laying the foundation for my values as a leader and considering the skills I need to further develop to support a future team.
• The connection with my mentor has been the greatest success from this mentoring program. She freely asked thought-provoking questions, challenged my perspectives and challenged me to “stretch” beyond my current position. A professional connection I hope to maintain after EWG ends.
• This program was the right thing at the right time for me. The opportunity to connect with women in leadership roles and learn from them has been an invaluable experience.
• I appreciated being paired with a mentor that was quite the opposite from me. I’m more reserved and an observer, while she was very direct and outgoing. I think what benefited me the most was just hearing about different women’s journeys to leadership.
• I was able to make new connections through the mentorship program which is valuable especially since the connections are in my field of work and provided me with valuable insight for leadership and management within my field. I will maintain these connections throughout my career. I learned a great deal about data analytics and how to best present the data as my mentor is a data analyst and is still going to help me with this skill even after the mentorship is over. I learned numerous skills that have benefitted me with my current position and has allowed me to think more about my career goals and what I need to do in order to achieve those goals. I am leading a specialized project group at my agency and my mentor’s feedback was valuable in aiding me to successfully lead a brainstorming session which identified gaps and options to close those gaps which put the project ahead of schedule to collaborate with others to seek options to close the gaps.
Mentors
• As a mentor I still gained quite a bit from the experience with my protege…she was absolutely wonderful, thoughtful, engaged and had the best questions…kept me on my toes!
• I believe I gained more clarity on what was most valuable to my mentee. It is always good to help the next generation, so that is satisfying.
• Every time I mentor someone from another agency, I learn another culture which, in turn, provides me more knowledge and better mentoring skills.
• I gained the ability to expand my reach through executive leadership coaching and mentoring in support of mentees outside of my Agency. It is my hope that I was effective in sharing my insights, perspective and unique lens as a woman and as a leader in the federal space that helped each of them in their journey.
